On Saturday I started the vacation phase of the trip. Technically it started on Friday, but I changed rooms on Saturday, which had the disadvantage of taking far too long, and the advantage of an improved view.

I had to check out of my old room by 10AM, but could not get into the new until nearly 3PM, so in the meantime I was able to do some laundry, and lots of reading.

On Sunday I rented a bike and hit the open road. It is my first road ride in many months (8 or more), and I only managed a 12 mile route, but it was nice to be out and rolling.

Today I am renting a car for 2 days. Today’s trip is to visit the volcano and Waikaloa village and maybe Kona. Tomorrow I have scheduled a boat trip to snorkle near the Captain Cook memorial. The rest of the week is unplanned and since it is only 2 days, will probably be reading and relaxing.
