Treatment 7, Day 1 of 3

So today (yesterday?) was Wednesday and it was also the treatment day Wednesday.

I “woke up, got outa bed, ran a comb across my head”, well not that last part since the rash on my scalp would have screamed at the idea of a comb.  I got a ride from my friend Gina to the treatment center and spent one of my longest days in the chair. Since I had the rash from the one drug, I think they slowed down the rate of that one which added considerable time to the whole process. I got in at 8:20 and left at 14:30, so a 6 hour day in the chair.

I met with the Nurse Practitioner and we discussed my rash, my remaining treatments, and my general status. She brought up the weight loss at my last session, but since I reversed that a little going into this one, it was not an issue. I told her that I hope to resume a slow measured loss going forward in a way to best set up for my surgery and yet not cause any undue concern on their part. She did inform me that my full treatment course at this time is planned for 12 treatment sessions, so I am past the half-way mark.

The treatment went normally. The Oxalaplatin has left me extremely sensitive to cold (even room temperature seems cold at times when drinking something), and the Benedril injection left me sleepy and I napped for most of the 6 hours.

I am hopeful that if I manage my energy better this time and don’t allow myself to overwork tomorrow, I will have a better 2 weeks than last time. On the positive side, my new windows and doors are scheduled for installation on Friday. To accommodate that, the nurses were able to adjust the rate on my pump to have it take 48 hours instead of 46, giving me an additional 2 hours home with the contractors before I need to head to the center to turn in the pump and remove the IV. I hope that will be long enough, but just in case, I will line up a short term (1 hour max) house minder to cover if I need it.
