Improvement

So yesterday (Wed.) I started my fifth treatment. Today I wear the pump until about 11AM Friday delivering my 46 hours of the 5-FU drug. As I mentioned in the last post, I met with the Oncologist and we have discontinued the Avastin since it compounds the risk of blood clots, and having one already it seemed like too high risk for now.

On the improvement side, my left leg felt almost normal yesterday afternoon after getting all of the saline infusions during treatment, so that indicates that hydration really is critical at this point. My electrolyte solution or diluted juice drinks seem to work for my day to day hydrating, so I will keep up with that, and pick up some pomegranate juice on my way into the office today to use while there.

The doctor also recommended full leg compression socks and although she will probably have a prescription for me on Friday, I took the more expeditious route and ordered some inexpensive but well reviewed ones on Amazon for now. Sine I only need it on the left leg, three pairs should last me six days, or three days at a time if I change them twice in a day.

During my discussion with the oncologist I asked about if we would look to do another ultrasound at some point to assess the progress and she seemed to think it was not that important as long as I am on the Xarelto and showing signs of improvement, she would only want another ultrasound before taking me off of the blood thinner which will not be done until I show no signs of cancer.  I assume that as we approach the end of the chemo course and start planning the followup surgery we will discuss then what needs to be done for that to be safe.

Otherwise, things are going as well as I can hope.  No new unexpected side effects and looking forward to getting some exercise in on Saturday.

Cheers.
