After Saturday’s failed hydration experiment I have concentrated on alternatives to plain water. Sunday I used a simple electrolyte solution of water and an electrolyte powder that I have for cycling. That worked pretty well with me apparently absorbing more of the fluid even though I drank less. Monday I instead used a 50/50 dilution of Cranberry juice and water. I managed to drink about 2 quarts of that and it appeared to also be absorbed pretty well. At 3PM while at the office (where I was just drinking plain water) my hydration was poor (as determined by the color of my urine), so I went home and started on the Cranberry juice option. After a few hours of pretty steady drinking of that solution my urine was nearly clear again, indicating that I was adequately hydrated. I will stick with this combination for now and hope it is the key to the clotting.
Other than the hydration and of course the blood clot, I feel pretty good. The left leg continues to be stiff and sore, but is at least no worse than the previous day and could be incrementally better. Wednesday is treatment 5. If the Avastin is raising the risk of clotting, I definitely want to discuss if the rate of delivery is a factor and if so should we go back to the slower rate. My suspicion is that the rate has little to do with the risk.
