Even my car was tired.

I’m writing this one early since I have much reading to do before bed.

I woke this morning as usual feeling fine and ready to hit a new day.  It was 7AM, so I had at least 2 hours until the nurse would visit to get showered, make and eat breakfast and get working.

The nurse’s visit was uneventful.  It was my last, since she discharged me from the program.  I hadn’t really needed these visits so it is nice to free her up for more needful patients. My vitals were all still quite good although my busy weekend had cost me some weight, with my pre-breakfast weigh in (I am inconsistent on when I weigh in) showing my down 3 pounds since a week ago.  I am pretty sure that my post meal weight would have added back a pound, so nothing to worry about.  Since my end goal for my later surgery has me wanting to slowly lose about another 20 pounds over that 6 month period, it is not totally unwelcome.

Isabella has taken to the “Klik Klak” as well as the new bed, not even batting an eye when I adjust it.

There was planned work for my street today so I headed out around 7:30 to possibly move my car off the street.  To my chagrin, it would not start.  The battery had just enough juice to unlock the doors and get the cars computer into a tizzy.  I had a friend stop by around 1:30 to give it a jump start, and learned some valuable lessons about our new fancy cars.

  1. Keyless entry is great as long as you have power.  By 1:30 the battery was completely dead.  I was able to unlock the driver door using the backup mechanical key but the rear lift gate had no such option, forcing me to crawl all over the place to get to my jumper cables stored under the rear deck cover.
  2. Keyless start is great as long as you have power.  I needed to put the car into neutral to push it out enough to get my friends car close enough for the jumper cables.  Unfortunately I did not have enough juice to even engage the electronics to unlock the transmission.  Luckily he had his own cables and by stringing them together (don’t do this at home kids) we were able to power up my battery and get me started.

I was about to head to the parts store for a new battery when I noticed that the dome light was on.  I can only surmise that I turned it on to read the notice about the road repair yesterday and forgot to turn it back off.  Since I was parked outside, I did not notice it like I would have in my otherwise dark garage.  I also noticed that every warning light and signal that my car possesses was illuminated.  Instead of driving to the parts store, I headed to the dealership to have a talk with one of their mechanics.  I was very lucky that the mechanic or technician or whatever his job was that met me at my car was pretty knowledgable.  He noted that what I was seeing was a result of the failed start early in the day.  When the engine failed to turn over, it left the on board computer in a state that did not match the sensors.  He connected his diagnostic device and saw what he expected (every indicator flagged as failed, but a car that started and had driven).  He stopped and started the car a few times and the errors cleared up.  He told me that if I had swapped the battery out, it should have cleared also, but since he was able to start it a few times after I had driven it for about 15 minutes, it was probably not a bad battery.  He also showed me where the mechanical release for the transmission shifting was so next time I will be able to get it to neutral and push it if necessary.

That is the end of my post for today.  I need to read many chapters of a book tonight to catch up to where the book club is supposed to be for Wednesday’s meet up where I am hosting.

Cheers
