Chew your food kids

Today went pretty smooth. The nurse visited and we discussed discharging me from the home care after next weeks visit.  I haven’t really needed her other than for an occasional question about caring for aggrieved skin near my stoma site.

Tomorrow I see the surgeon for a follow up.  I am hoping to get some suggestions for core exercises that I can start to do to strengthen my core and possibly help flatten the belly.  I don’t want to do anything to risk a hernia which could happen near the stoma site, so his advice will hopefully guide that.  I did bring my exercise ball home from my office at work.  Sitting on that while I work from home is at least a good start.

I did make one mistake today.  I become engrossed in my work and almost missed taking my lunch.  I noticed the time at about 12:30 and with a meeting at 1PM I had enough time to hit the cafeteria where they had the healthy choice of Salmon, brown rice, cooked zucchini, butternut squash and carrots.  The carrots were a bit al dente which is great for the taste, but I should have really taken my time to masticate them well.  Instead I became distracted and ate them a little too quickly.  Later while I was sitting in the meeting I could feel as the undigested pieces moved out of the stoma.  Luckily I had chewed them well enough to avoid any blockage, but I will consider this a lesson learned. As they told us when we were young, chew you food kids.
